We are a few weeks into the New Year, resolutions are in full effect and if, like us, you shared them with your nearest and dearest, you are starting to wonder why you wanted to be accountable. For a little pick-me-up, our guilt free, budget friendly, brightening and pore refining homemade face mask that is sure to give you and your skin that New Year glow.
Using only household staples, this is our simple but effective face mask recipe.
What you need:
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice
Now we have the ingredients, the three simple steps to create your facemask are as follows:
- Step 1:
In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients with a teaspoon into a light paste. Add a touch more baking powder if you like your masks thick in consistency.
- Step 2:
Apply the mixture evenly in circular motions over clean dry skin and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Wash the mixture off completely with lukewarm water and finish with a splash of cold water to help shrink pores further.
- Step 3:
Follow through with your toner (try pure rose water on a cotton round) and moisturise (we recommend using coconut oil, as it is rich in fatty acids, helps reduce bacteria on the skin’s surface and helps restore natural oils).
We love this face mask as part of our weekend skin care routine for bright, radiant skin all week long.
The baking soda gently exfoliates, helps skin to absorb the nutrients in your moisturiser better, reduces blackheads as well as the dead skin cells buildup. Lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C and brightens your overall complexion. While the citric acid from the lemon helps reduce the visibility of your pores leaving you with that fresh even feeling, honey has great antibacterial benefits that help heal, soothe and moisturise. Plus, as an added benefit, create a mask that smells good enough to eat.
Regularly used, this kitchen cupboard mask packs a punch and can help relieve newly inflamed acne and slowly heal older acne spots.
Give it a go, lie back and relax your way to brighter skin.
