Room sprays, scented candles and diffusers are fantastic on a scent blank canvas. Banish odours and neutralise unpleasant smells with this DIY natural odour eliminator. Quick, simple and effective for cupboards, closets or seldom used rooms.
What you need:
- One pot of baking soda/powder
- Essential oil
- Lemons for decoration
- A jar with a lid
- Ribbon or string to decorate the jar
Preparation:
- Step 1
Make sure that your jar is clean. If anything contaminates the jar, the baking soda will react.
- Step 2
Add the whole content of the baking soda to the jar. The baking soda is the key ingredient, as it absorbs the odours while simultaneously holding the fragrance of the essential oil.
- Step 3
Add 5-6 drops of the essential oil to the baking soda in the jar. The more oil you add, the stronger the scent. You can even get creative by mixing in a few different oils for a unique neutraliser scent.
- Step 4
Close the lid and give it a good shake. A sprig of rosemary, thyme or lavender can provide it with an added visual appeal.
- Step 5
If you are a citrus lover, you can add in a few slices to the jar for decoration; they will eventually dry out and keep your deodoriser looking pretty.
- Step 6
This step is optional, use string or ribbon to decorate your jar to add that personal touch.
You can make a few for friends and family.
- Step 7
To use the deodoriser, pop the lid open and voilá!
Give it a go!
