In winter, our skin has to confront wind, rain and drastic temperature changes. Somewhere in between warm homes and the freezing outdoors, hydration becomes a must in our skin care routine. Change from hot to cold temperatures results in our skin’s epidermis going into an inactive state and, therefore, our skin can lose its healthy brightness, so we chase the elusive summer glow.
Wondering whether having glowy soft skin and in winter is even a possibility?
Here are our winter skin care tips and a must-have hydration pack to keep you glowing in the blustering months to come:
- HYDRATION
We are 70% water, so this first tip might not come as a surprise. You have to drink water to get that glowing skin. A common myth is that dehydrated skin can be restored to life by piling on more hydrating creams and oils – the more, the better. But your skin – which, after all, is our largest organ that is dependent on water – is, in fact, largely dictated by your hydration levels. So, get yourself a nice water bottle and make it a goal to consume at least a litre and a half of water a day for maximum hydration.
- LUXURY SHOWER OIL
Sorry to rain on your hot bubbly bath parade but try to resist the temptation for the sake of your complexion, if you can. Hot baths and showers can dissolve the protective barrier in the winter skin, which will eventually lead to dryness.
To ensure your skin cells stay hydrated, you need to feed them from the inside as well as from the outside. Cool and lukewarm showers help with keeping the hydration in. Stick to lukewarm , rather than hot baths, to prevent early dryness.
Add a little luxury shower oil to your skin care routine with our Malée Moisturising Oil. Boasting a potent blend of super-concentrated natural oils, plus essential vitamins, fatty acids and skin-tightening peptides, it’s the all-in-one solution to your skin, hair and nail repair needs. Apply onto your skin, hands and nails at night for an intense moisture boost. Or you can use it as a pre-shampoo oil for hair growth.
Use it right after coming out the shower or bath while your skin is still damp. Add a few drops into your bath while you run it for added moisture while you soak, sit back and relax.
Healthy fact: After a night bath, use it before going to bed. Your skin’s blood flow is much higher at night than in the day. This means it’s more susceptible to absorbing the benefits of good healthy moisturising products and has its best chance of achieving the desired results.

- CLEANSING
Cleansing does more than removing excess of oil, impurities and dead skin cells. It can also hydrate and prep the skin for a better moisturised result. If you want to give the best to your skin, what can be better than seeking the help of Mother Nature!
Depending on your skin type, always keep in mind that central heating, wind and cold temperatures will leave your skin drier than normal, so you also need to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin calls in winter as well.
Our award-winning Body Scrub uses a gentle yet effective combination of natural ingredients. Multi-grain natural salt, skin-loving oils and sugar are some healthy ingredients of this marvellous exfoliator. Apply it in large circular motions with a light pressure to buff away dead skin cells. On problem areas such as knees, heels and elbows, use smaller circular motions to increase effectiveness.
- NATURAL REMEDIES
Experiment with natural home remedies. They are easy to make, but can also be quite effective in nourishing and hydrating dry skin back to a healthy state. Straight from your kitchen cupboard or fridge.
Try a DIY vegan friendly natural avocado face mask. It can help you regulate your skin’s production of oil, reducing shine and keeping your skin supple.
At Malée, we love the DIY process. It gives us time to wind down and do something with the rest of the family, not to mention it feels good to make things yourself. Interested in making a natural hand cream? Learn how here.
- SUPPLEMENTS AND FOOD SUPERPOWERS
Hyaluronic acid is a supplement dermatologists swear by. Today, it’s actually considered equally important, or even more relevant, than collagen.
Healthy fact: Cucumber is perfect for keeping your skin hydrated. It has the highest water content of any solid food and is perfect for salads, or sliced up and served with some hummus. Want to pump up the cucumber’s hydrating power even more? Try blending it with non-fat yogurt, mint and ice cubes to make a refreshing but healthy dessert.
Malée’s range of 100% natural beauty products contains only the purest botanical extracts that are so powerful you only need a few to complete your entire skin care routine.
